Hundreds of anti government protesters took to the streets in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia, demanding the immediate release of political prisoners.
They chanted slogans against the absolute monarchy in the country. The demonstrators in the town of Qatif and Awamiyah on Friday ( 30 / 9 ) also expressed their solidarity with the anti-government protesters in Bahrain and Riyadh condemned the crackdown against peaceful demonstrators in Manama.
Saudi activists said more than 30,000 political prisoners incarcerated in state prisons. According to them, most political figures detained by the government without trial or charges that are legitimate and they were arrested just because it looks suspicious. Some detainees reportedly locked up without trial for more than 16 years.
Trying to incite against the government and the public to cooperate with foreign entities, usually charges made against the regime's political leaders.
Human Rights Watch says more than 160 opposition have been arrested since February, as part of the Saudi government's crackdown against protesters.
According to human rights organizations based in Saudi, the prisoners were tortured both physically and mentally.
